Homelessness charities are calling for support for the homeless community over the festive season.

One charity campaigning for donations is Social Bite. Their Christmas appeal called Christmas of Kindness is appealing for members of the public to donate to help provide homeless people with a Christmas dinner, a gift, a pack of essential items and a bed for the night.

Thousands are expected to be sleeping rough in the capital this winter, with the cold weather making this time of year even more difficult for those without homes to go to.

Josh Littlejohn is the founder of social bite and told us 'it can be the most difficult, the most lonely, the most cold time of the year. You can imagine it can be pretty depressing so its even more important than ever that we come together as a society and show a bit of compassion to people in that situation.

"We try to help them with a nice hot Christmas dinner, some gifts and essential items that we know they need.

These can make the world of difference in terms of a practical thing and also psychologically and emotionally it just shows that people care when they donate these gifts and it can make a world of difference".
