Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations shut for major upgrades
Southeastern services rerouted during three-week closure
London Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations will be closed for 22 days starting Sunday, as part of a £20 million engineering project aimed at enhancing the reliability and safety of train services.
The closure impacts services across the Southeastern network, with trains being diverted or terminating at alternative locations such as London Bridge, Victoria, Cannon Street, and Blackfriars.
Passengers are advised to plan their journeys carefully, checking schedules and routes in advance.
The engineering works will involve track replacements, structural repair works, and upgrades to platform foundations, particularly focusing on victorian-built Hungerford Bridge.
The decision to carry out the project over summer seeks to minimise disruption, coinciding with typically lower passenger numbers.
Further planned closures will occur later in the year on 22nd-23rd August and 10th-11th October.
Southeastern passengers have various alternative public transport options, with special arrangements for ticket holders using London buses and underground trains.
