A 48-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an Indian national in Lambeth on New Year's Day.

The body of 41-year-old Kaleem Shaik was discovered inside a property on Bondway at around 8pm on 1 January, as Metropolitan Police officers responded to concerns for a man's welfare.

Daniel Levy, of Bondway, was arrested on the same day.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 5 January.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with Kaleem’s family at this very difficult time.

“My team is not currently seeking any additional suspects in relation to this tragic incident.

"We understand the concern this will have caused the local community and residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days.”

Kaleem Shaik's family members in India are being supported by specialist officers.
