The family of a man who died after a road traffic collision on the M53 in Wirral on Sunday (6th April), have issued a tribute.

At around 3.35pm emergency services received reports that a blue Suzuki motorbike had been in collision with a road barrier on the slip road which leads from the northbound carriageway onto the Moreton Spur.

On arrival they found that 31-year-old Mike Glasby had sustained serious injuries.

He was treated at the scene but has since died from his injuries.

The family statement reads:

"It is with deep sorrow and overwhelming grief that we, the family of Mike Glasby, announce the tragic passing of our beloved partner, daddy, son, brother, uncle and nephew in a fatal road traffic collision on Sunday, 6th April 2025, on the M53 motorway at junction 2.

"Mike, who was 31 years old, was much-loved, known for his kindness, sense of humour, and unwavering support for his family and friends. His sudden and untimely death has left an irreplaceable void in our lives.

"We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate through this period of profound loss and begin to come to terms with the absence of someone so special."

An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

A 30-year-old man from the Wirral has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving. He is currently in custody.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said:

“Our thoughts are with Mike's family at this sad time and they are being supported by specialist officers. It is now a priority for us to get answers for them about how the collision occurred and my team are working to establish key facts.

“This collision happened on a busy part of the motorway network. Early enquiries show there were a number of vehicles in the area at that time, and I believe it may have been witnessed by members of the public or have been captured on dash cameras.

"I would appeal directly to anyone who saw anything and who has yet to speak with my team to please get in touch.

“In addition, a man has been arrested in connection with this matter and remains in police custody. He will be interviewed by detectives later today.

“I believe that both Mike and the arrested person had been riding their motorcycles having visited a pub on Ferry Road by the River Mersey and have travelled from that location to the scene of the collision. To that end I appeal for anyone who may have been a blue Suzuki Bandit and a black Kawasaki travelling together just prior to the collision to please get in touch."
