Two men have each been sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison for the murder of 47-year-old Paul Foster, who was fatally stabbed during an attempted robbery in West Derby, Liverpool.
The sentencing follows a trial in which five people were found guilty of offences connected to Mr Foster’s death, after the incident on Muirhead Avenue on 15th October 2024.
Zayd Alasaly, 24, of Corinto Street, in Toxteth, was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years for murder, robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Michael Fields, 49, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years for murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He had already admitted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence.
Three other people are being sentenced today.
Elsadig Abrahim, 61, of Croxteth Road, Liverpool, was found guilty of manslaughter, robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence and has been jailed for 18 years.
Dylan Blundell, 27, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of manslaughter and had admitted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence. He has been jailed for 16 years.
Sarah Kasseum, 40, of Lower Breck Road, Liverpool, was found guilty of manslaughter, robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence. She has received 15 years for manslaughter, and a further two years consecutive sentence for drugs offences.
The incident in West Derby
Paul Foster was killed after five people went to a flat on Muirhead Avenue with the intention of carrying out a robbery. During the incident, he was stabbed once in the back and later died from his injuries.
His family described him as “a much-loved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a true friend to many.”
Police response
Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath said: “These individuals clearly targeted Paul Foster and not only subjected him to a robbery, but tragically he lost his life after being stabbed.
“Despite all five suspects denying murder, following a complex and thorough investigation we were able to prove that Alasaly and Fields were guilty of this offence. Abraham, Blundell and Kasseum were also found guilty of manslaughter for their role in Mr Foster’s death.
“Our thoughts remain with his friends and family as they continue to grieve their loss.”
