Three men have been charged with serious firearm offences following a detailed investigation into multiple incidents that occurred in Liverpool in 2023.

The charges include possession of a firearm and ammunition, Section 18 wounding with intent, and robbery related to several incidents throughout the year.

These incidents include a shooting at the Botanic Gardens in Edge Hill on 19th May, and several incidents on 3rd and 13th December in Everton involving shootings and threats with firearms, some resulting in life-changing injuries.

Damon Elliott, a 27-year-old with no fixed address, faces three counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, four counts of wounding with intent, and robbery.

Tony Clayton, 29, and Kehinde Akinyele, 25, both from Kensington, have been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, wounding with intent, and robbery.

The men have been remanded in custody and are set to appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court today.

Detective Inspector Chris Clark, from the Firearm Investigation Team, emphasised the importance of removing weapons from streets and encouraged the public to provide information.

He said, “Our officers regularly search open land to remove potentially lethal weapons from our streets and carry out high-visibility patrols to reassure the public and gather information which we can act upon.”

Clark urged those who suspect gun crime in their areas to contact authorities, highlighting the role of community cooperation in safety efforts.

Anyone with information related to gun storage can contact Merseyside Police through their social media or on their website.

Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously at 0800 555 111. In emergencies, the public is advised to call 999.
