'Suspicious package' causes evacuation in Liverpool

Police say they were called to Union Street at lunchtime

Merseyside Police have confirmed that emergency services are dealing with reports of a suspicious package in Liverpool City Centre.

The force says officers were called to a building on Union Street, at around 12.50pm today (Thursday 2 January).

We're told that as a precaution, Union Street has been closed and a building has been evacuated while emergency services deal with the incident.

Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area, and anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 or @CrimestoppersUK.
