Police step up powers in Kirkby following reported firearms incident
Officers are continuing to investigate a reported sighting of a firearm in Northwood
Authorities in Kirkby have implemented a Section 60 authority following reports of a firearms incident in the area.
Armed officers responded to a call at around 9.05pm last night (Saturday 13th June 2026), reporting a man with a firearm on Warrenhouse Road, Northwood.
Investigations are in progress, including checking CCTV, conducting house-to-house inquiries, and reviewing local hospitals.
No injuries have been reported, and there is currently no evidence of a weapon being fired.
Officers stood down armed patrols at around 10pm but will maintain a presence in the area to continue gathering information and engaging with the community.
The Section 60 order, in effect until 11pm on Sunday 14th June, grants officers extra powers to stop and search individuals to prevent serious violence.
It covers specific areas in Kirkby, namely Headbolt Lane, County Road, South Boundary Road, Perimeter Road, North Perimeter Road, and Dale Lane.
Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramandan stressed the importance of public cooperation:
“We are still working to establish the exact circumstances of what happened last night, so it is imperative that anyone with information, dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage comes forward as soon as possible," he said.
Residents can expect increased police patrols, with officers encouraged to speak with anyone who has concerns.
