Pistol and ammunition found hidden in Wirral
Weapon discovered behind substation in Tranmere
A Glock pistol and ammunition have been discovered hidden behind a substation in Tranmere, Wirral, prompting an investigation by Merseyside Police.
Officers were called at 09:27 on Tuesday 14th April after a report that a firearm had been found concealed on Brougham Avenue. The weapon was wrapped in cling film and placed inside a Valentino man bag, alongside magazines and a shotgun shell.
The black handgun is believed to be viable and has since been made safe. It has been forensically recovered as enquiries continue into its происхождение and potential links to criminal activity.
Forensic testing underway
Detectives are now carrying out forensic examinations to determine whether the weapon has been used in any previous incidents.
Detective Inspector Chris Clark, from the Firearms Investigation Team, said: “The blank firearm had been converted to a live handgun, and we are now forensically testing it to see if it is linked to any incidents.”
Police appeal for information
Merseyside Police are urging the public to come forward with any information about weapons being stored or used in the community.
DI Clark added: “We rely on community intelligence to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them.
“I would ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears. If you do find anything, don’t touch it but call 101 and we will take it from there.”
