Liverpool is launching a £10 million fund aimed at attracting major events, including ambitions for high-profile spectacles like the Tour de France and Euros.

The fund, managed by Liverpool’s Accommodation BID, is generated from a £2 per room per night charge to visitors staying overnight in the city’s hotels.

This initiative is designed to bolster Liverpool’s visitor economy by supporting significant events, destination marketing, and broader visitor-related services.

Out of the fund, nearly £7 million is earmarked for major events, £1 million is for destination marketing, and the remainder is designated for visitor economy support.

Bill Addy, CEO of Liverpool Business Improvement District, explained the strategy behind targeting the overnight visitor market for economic growth.

“We have a clear objective in attracting events that drive overnight stays. There is real value in targeting investment on direct visitor activity, helping money flow into the city economy from overnight stays, food and drink, retail, and the wider supply chain in hospitality.”

Marcus Magee, Chair of the Accommodation BID Board, elaborated on the partnership for sustainability.

“This fund is about creating a sustainable partnership between the Accommodation BID, accommodation sector and the visitor economy. We know that this is a successful private sector led initiative, enabling a circular economy where we can generate investment from overnight stays.”

Since its introduction in June 2025, Liverpool’s overnight levy has contributed to various city events such as the Labour Party Conference and World Championships, showcasing its effectiveness in boosting local tourism.

The Conferences and Exhibition Fund will open applications on two rounds, on 29th May and 28th August. For more information on funding criteria and eligibility, visit the Liverpool BID website.
