A man is facing trial next year for allegedly encouraging terrorism on Instagram.

Luqmaan Ahmed, 23, is charged with three counts of encouraging terrorism relating to two videos and a statement allegedly posted in September and November 2022 and July 2023.

The defendant appeared for a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey before Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb on Friday.

Defence barrister Andrew Morris told the court the defendant had said he was "always anti-Isis".

He had accepted making the posts but did not believe he had been "reckless" as to whether members of the public would be directly or indirectly encouraged, Mr Morris said.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said the case would be heard at Manchester Crown Court.

The senior judge set a plea hearing on November 7 and a provisional trial from July 20 next year.

Ahmed, of Heald Place, Manchester, was granted continued conditional bail.
