A man is in a serious condition in hospital after a stabbing at a house in Walton.

Police were called to Roxborough Street at around 17:20GMT on Tuesday following reports of an assault.

Witnesses reported a man had been assaulted by a group of men carrying with poles and bats in an alleyway.

A 57-year-old man from Walton has been arrested on suspicion of affray possession of an offensive weapon and resisting arrest.

He was taken into custody for questioning.

A short time later, officers were called to a house on Ruskin Street, where they found a man with slash wounds to his leg, back and hand.

His condition is described as serious but stable.

Extensive enquiries are underway at the scene to establish any connection between the two reports, with witnesses being spoken to and CCTV opportunities being explored.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer said: “Our enquiries into this incident are at a very early stage, but based on our initial assessment of the circumstances, we believe this was a targeted attack carried out by a number of males.

“The injuries sustained by the victim are extensive and it will no doubt come as a huge shock to those living on Ruskin Street and the surrounding area.

“They can expect to see increased police activity in the coming days, and I urge residents to come forward with any information or concerns they may have.”
