Police are seeking witnesses to a collision involving a Sur-ron bike inside the Queensway Tunnel that left a Liverpool man critically injured.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of 11th August on the Birkenhead to Liverpool carriageway.

It took place approximately two thirds of the way through the tunnel towards the Liverpool end.

The rider has been hospitalised and remains in a critical condition following the accident.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit shared appreciation for the public's patience during the closure of the tunnel, which was necessary for investigative work.

He said, “The rider of the bike remains in a critical condition in hospital and our thoughts are with his family."

Police are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed the bike entering the toll booth area in Birkenhead or saw the collision.

Detective Sergeant Timpson added, “We are currently speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV to establish what has taken place in the lead-up to the collision and I would ask anyone who saw the bike or witnessed the collision to contact us.”
