Last updated 14th Jun 2026
A total of eight people were arrested during the policing of a planned procession and counter-protest in Liverpool today.
The arrests were made for various public order and anti-social behaviour offences.
Among those detained was a 26-year-old man on suspicion of breach of peace.
A 31-year-old man faced charges related to a Section 60aa public order offence and possession of cannabis after allegedly refusing to remove a balaclava in an area under a Section 60 order.
A 50-year-old man was charged with being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a constable.
Additional arrests pertained to other public order offences.
All suspects have been taken to police stations for questioning.
Police remain present in the area to reassure the community.
Superintendent Phil Mullally said, “All of those people arrested will now be subject to investigations, so if you have any information to assist, then please let us know."
Mullally explained that most arrests occurred before the procession or after group dispersals, identifying individuals involved in anti-social behaviour at nearby locations.
“We hope that the disruption caused today has been minimal, which was assisted by our use of additional powers, including a Section 60 order and Section 34 Dispersal zone," Mullally continued.
“Our response today was clear – to ensure the safety of all those attending and of the wider public, and of course to take swift, appropriate and proportionate action if people are suspected of committing criminal offences,” Mullally added.
The police encourage anyone with information about antisocial behaviour and criminality to contact Merseyside Police.
