Man in his 80s dies after crash involving van in Knotty Ash supermarket car park
Police want to hear from witnesses of the crash on East Prescot Road
A man in his 80s has died following a crash involving a van in a supermarket car park in Knotty Ash, Merseyside Police has said.
Officers were called to the Sainsbury's car park on East Prescot Road at around 3.40pm on Saturday 10th October.
They were responding to reports of a serious crash involving an orange-coloured van and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital.
Police said he died from his injuries on Monday 26th October despite the efforts of medical staff.
The van driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or the events leading up to it, to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "My thoughts are with the man's family at this desperately sad time.
"We have launched an investigation and our priority is to ensure we get answers for his family and establish the facts about what happened.
"The car park was busy at the time of the collision and, while we already have some witness accounts and CCTV footage, I would ask people to cast their minds back to 10 October.
"If you saw the collision or feel you have information that may help our enquiries, please get in touch. Equally, if you have any additional footage, it could help us to establish exactly how this collision took place."
