Pupils from schools and colleges across the region are taking over Chester Zoo today (1st July) to run workshops about conservation and sustainability with thousands of visitors.

Throughout the day, around 50 young people will be stationed around the 130-acre zoo, leading engaging conversations, activities and displays inspired by the animals nearby.

Activities will cover everything from protecting UK wildlife and tackling deforestation through sustainable palm oil, to the illegal wildlife trade, coral reef conservation and the green actions they take at school.

Using artwork, interactive activities, storytelling and displays and each group will bring their chosen topic to life in their own unique way and will encourage visitors to think about how everyday choices can help protect wildlife and habitats around the world.

The event gives young people the opportunity to have their voices heard, champion the environmental issues that matter most to them and inspire visitors to take positive action for nature.

Schools and colleges taking part include Witton Church Walk CE Primary School, Locking Stumps Community Primary School, Rivacre Valley Primary School, Upton High School, St Mary's C of E Primary School, Tarvin Primary School, St Bernard's RC and Nursery School, and Ysgol Bryn Deva.
