The family of Ellis Cox has made an emotional appeal for information on the second anniversary of his murder in the hope of finally getting justice.

Ellis, aged 19, was fatally shot on Sunday 23 June 2024 at Liver Industrial Estate and an extensive investigation is ongoing to find the people responsible.

So far, nine people have been arrested in connection to the murder, but no one has been charged yet.

A Crimestoppers reward of up to £20,000 was recently extended and will remain in place until Monday 6 July 2026.

Ellis’ family have also raised an additional £20,000 to double the reward for any information that leads to a conviction.

Today, Tuesday 23 June, the family are marking two years since he was killed.

Paying tribute to Ellis, they said: “Today marks two years since our beautiful Ellis was taken from us.

“Just 19 years old, Ellis had his whole life ahead of him. He should be here making memories, making us laugh, spending time with his big brother, hugging his mum, and continuing to grow into the incredible young man we all knew he would become. Instead, we are left trying to navigate a world without him.

“Ellis was so much more than the way he died. He was funny, witty, and could make people laugh without even trying. He had a gentle soul, a maturity beyond his years, and a natural instinct to help others whenever he could. He cared deeply about the people around him and loved his family fiercely. The bond he shared with his mum, his big brother, and the rest of his family was something truly special.

“Two years ago, Ellis was shot and left behind. While our world stopped that day, we are forced to watch time carry on. Birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings, and ordinary days all pass with his empty place felt more deeply than words can ever describe.

“The pain of losing him is something we cannot fully explain. It lives with us every day. It is in every milestone he should have reached, every conversation we wish we could have had, and every moment we long to hear his voice or see his smile again. What was taken from us was not only Ellis’s future, but part of ours too.

“And still, after two years, we are left with unanswered questions. Someone knows what happened. Someone knows the truth. We cannot understand how anyone can carry that knowledge and stay silent while our family continues to live with this heartbreak every single day.

“If you know something, however small you think it may be, please find the courage to come forward. Silence protects those responsible. Speaking up could help bring the answers and justice that Ellis deserves.

“We miss him beyond measure. We love him beyond words. We will continue to speak his name, honour his memory, and fight for the truth.

“Forever 19. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Ellis.”

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Today we mark the second anniversary of the murder of Ellis and I know from speaking to the family that they’ve been thinking of him every single day over the last two years.

“They still haven’t had justice, but it’s testament to their resilience and love for Ellis that they are still campaigning and fighting for the truth.

“As the SIO in this case, I am still determined as I was two years ago to find the person or people responsible for this tragic murder.

“I hope the recent arrests in connection with the case, with nine people in total questioned about what happened, shows how relentless we are in getting justice for Ellis and his family.

“Our specialist family liaison officers have supported them since day one and we know the immeasurable impact his death has had on them every single day.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who holds any information whatsoever to get in touch. It’s not too late. We are certain that someone out there knows who is responsible and could end the family’s agonising wait for answers.

“If anyone out there is keeping information to themselves, I ask you to consider what Ellis’s family are going through.

“If you haven’t already, it is now time to come forward with that information.”
