A 23-year-old Eastham man, Edward Attah, has been sentenced to 48 months in jail for drug offences at Liverpool Crown Court after evading the authorities by fleeing to Portugal.

The case began on 24th March 2023, when officers observed suspicious behaviour at an address in Rock Ferry. As police approached, the suspect fled by car, leaving behind cannabis resin and large quantities of Class A and B drugs in the garden.

When police entered the property, they discovered a McDonald's bag containing cocaine, along with several large bags of suspected white powder and blocks of cannabis resin labelled YSL and Dior. Weapons, including machetes and a knuckle duster, were also found.

Investigators seized around 200g of cocaine, with an estimated value between £10,200 and £25,700, and 1.9kg of cannabis, valued up to £29,150.

Attah was arrested for possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply Class A cocaine and Class B cannabis.

After pleading guilty to various drug offences, Attah failed to attend his sentencing hearing in September 2024. He left the UK for mainland Europe, then travelled to the USA, crossed into Mexico, and eventually flew to Portugal.

He was arrested in Portugal and returned to the UK on 11th March 2026, leading to his sentencing.

Detective Sergeant Andy Uren commented: “Attah thought he could evade justice by travelling to several different countries between 2024 and 2026, but this sentencing proves that we will arrest and prosecute anyone who hides from their crimes.

Attah brought drugs and violence into our communities which often causes serious harm on our streets.

We will relentlessly pursue these types of criminals who store dangerous drugs and weapons in our communities, no matter how long it takes.”
