The trial of a former Labour MP accused of drunkenly sexually assaulting a woman during a night out has been delayed.

Conor McGinn allegedly groped the woman’s breasts and crotch area after they had been out drinking together in July 2022, a court has previously heard.

At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, deputy chief magistrate Tan Ikram set a new date for a three-day trial starting on December 14 at the same court.

The judge said a previous November trial date had been organised before his availability had been checked.

McGinn pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual assault over the alleged incident at an earlier hearing.

The 41-year-old was elected as the MP for St Helens North in Merseyside in 2015, and spent the next nine years in Parliament.

He served as an opposition whip and the Labour Party’s deputy national campaign co-ordinator, and announced in 2023 that he would stand down at the election the following year.

McGinn, from Lambeth, south London, was suspended by the Labour Party in 2022.
