79-year-old hit by car after Liverpool match

Witnesses and footage are being sought following the crash on Oakfield Road

A 79-year-old man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car following a football match in Liverpool.

The crash happened at around 6.40pm on Sunday 15th March on Oakfield Road in Anfield, shortly after the Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur game at Anfield stadium.

The man suffered serious injuries to his ankle and leg.

The driver of a silver Range Rover stopped at the scene.

What happened

The crash took place as fans were leaving the stadium and walking along Oakfield Road.

There were a large number of people in the area at the time.

Officers are now asking anyone who saw what happened, or who may have captured it on CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, to come forward.

Appeal for witnesses

Constable Anthony Holden of the Matrix Roads Policing Unit said: "This was a serious collision, and we’re keen to speak to any witnesses as a result. The male pedestrian suffered a serious ankle and leg injury.

“The incident happened while fans were leaving the stadium and were walking along Oakfield Road. There were numerous people around who will have seen what happened and any information, no matter how small, could help the investigation.

“If you were passing the location and saw or captured the incident on CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage then please share this with police.”
