Woman from Edinburgh named as victim of A1 crash

Emergency services were called to a stretch in South Witham earlier this month

A woman killed in a crash on the A1 in Lincolnshire has been named as Melanie Genrich, who was from Edinburgh.

The 52-year-old died following a collision involving a car in the South Witham area on Saturday 9th May 2026.

A dog was also killed and two men initially arrested by police.

A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving was released under investigation and the 58-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder was released without charge.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said:

"The family have asked for privacy at this difficult time and are being supported by our specially trained officers.

"Our investigations into the circumstances of the collision continue and we would like to thank all those who have already come forward with footage and information so far.

"We would also like to further appeal for anyone who hasn’t contacted us so far and who was travelling either northbound or southbound on the A1 at South Witham, Lincolnshire between 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Saturday 9 May and recalls seeing a man, woman and a dog walking in the area or the actual collision, or anyone who may have captured the pedestrians or the collision on dashcam to please get in touch."
