Cleethorpes is set to host the UK’s inaugural beach wrestling competition this summer, promising a unique blend of ice creams, fish and chips, and thrilling bouts.

Organised by British Wrestling, this landmark event will take place next to the Cleethorpes leisure centre on Saturday, 25th July.

Participants will compete for the title of champion, while also being assessed for potential inclusion in future Great Britain (GBR) Beach Wrestling teams.

A spokesperson for British Wrestling expressed pleasure at the official sanctioning of the UK's first beach wrestling event in Cleethorpes and emphasised the significance of bringing this dynamic international discipline to the coastal location.

Throughout the morning, weigh-ins will be conducted in the leisure centre.

The first round of bouts is scheduled to take place on the sand from 11am to 1.30pm.

The event is free to attend, offering spectators a chance to experience the fast-paced nature of beach wrestling, a standing-only contest conducted within a seven-metre sand circle.

Matches end when one competitor achieves three points, typically by throwing their opponent on their back.

Councillor Tanya Brasted, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and the Visitor Economy, highlighted the honour of Cleethorpes hosting such a prestigious event, encouraging people to come down and witness the excitement firsthand.

Coinciding with the wrestling competition, visitors can also enjoy the Great Grub Fest, perfect for grabbing a bite to eat.
