Tributes after death of 13-year-old boy in Grimsby collision

A boy who died after a collision in Grimsby last week has been named 13-year-old Lachlan.

Humberside Police were called to Fairmont Road at around 6pm on Tuesday 24 March following reports a white Seat Ibiza had believed to have been in collision with Lachlan, who riding a kick scooter across the road.

Emergency services attended, and Lachlan was taken to hospital for treatment to life threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Lachlan sadly died on Friday 27 March.

Enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances around the collision, and as part of these initial enquiries, detectives say an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A 41-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, and both men have since been released under investigation.

Speaking of their loss, Lachlan’s sister and guardian said: “Lachlan’s smile was truly infectious, lighting up any room he entered. It wasn’t just his mouth that smiled - his eyes sparkled with joy and warmth.

"He made everyone around him feel happy with his naturally funny, cheeky charm. In keeping with the kind and selfless person he was, Lachlan was an organ donor, and even now he continues to help others.

"I am going to be lost without my sidekick, and I’m incredibly lucky to have had him in my life. Fly high, my Hot Chochlan.”

Officers continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information including, CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time the incident is believed to have occurred, to please contact Humberside Police's non-emergency number 101 quoting log 346 of 24 March.
