Work starts on temporary 100-tonne bridge for North Hykeham Relief Road project

Construction has started on a temporary bridge over the River Witham as part of the North Hykeham Relief Road project.
The 100-tonne bridge will be used by construction traffic while the new relief road is being built.
Lincolnshire County Council says it's an integral part of an 8km haul road between the A46 and A15, and will keep thousands of construction vehicles off local roads.
The council estimates more than 100,000 construction vehicles will use the bridge.
The bridge is expected to take four months to build and will be fifty metres long.
Cllr David East, executive member for highways, said: “The primary purpose of the North Hykeham Relief Road haul road is to keep construction traffic off the local road network wherever possible, reducing the impact on residents, businesses and day-to-day journeys while providing a dedicated, safe and efficient route for works vehicles. And this bridge will help facilitate all of that.
“By removing as many construction vehicles off of local roads, the haul road will help reduce congestion, noise and disruption for residents throughout the works, while also improving safety and journey reliability for other road users.”
