Delivery driver jailed for causing death of woman in Lincolnshire
Tarequl Islam has been sentenced to four years in prison
A food delivery driver has been jailed for four years after he caused the death of a woman on a pedestrian crossing in Lincoln.
32-year-old Tarequl Islam admitted causing death by dangerous driving after the collision on Carholme Road in May.
The court heard how whilst delivering food, Islam failed to stop at a red traffic light and hit a pedestrian, seriously injuring her.
55-year-old Maria Cristina Cherino Munoz died in hospital from her injuries 17 days later.
Islam claimed he couldn't see the victim as the sun was glaring in his eyes.
He was sentenced to four years in prison and given a seven year driving ban at Lincoln Crown Court today (18th December).
Detective Sergeant James Perring, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision is solely down to Islam’s failure to adhere to the basic rules of the road. In failing to adhere to the Highway Code advice regarding being dazzled by sunlight, he missed the red light with tragic consequences for Cristina.
“I would want to reiterate the importance of obeying all traffic signals and the Highway Code. Failing to adjust your driving to the conditions can have catastrophic consequences for all involved and in this case has taken a cherished mother from her family, who must now continue without her guiding light.”
