Stamford is set to light up its streets with the vibrant Glow and Lantern Ride this Friday, an event organized by the Cyclists of Stamford to promote safer cycling and improved cycle routes within the town.

Anna Wotherspoon, a keen cyclist and member of Cyclists of Stamford said: "The idea is to get cyclists out using lights as evenings get darker, preparing us for winter, and addressing fears about cycling after dark."

Participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes with lights, lanterns, and glow sticks and ensure their equipment is roadworthy and well-lit.

Anna explains the community impact: "It's really about cyclists finding each other. We’d like car drivers to be aware and cautious of cyclists on the road at night".

With around 40 people signed up, the event promises a visually stunning procession of glow-in-the-dark bikes meandering through Stamford's roads.

Anna hopes that the cycling group can continue with similar initiatives if this event fosters a sense of safety and attracts more people to nighttime cycling.

Reflecting on the broader benefits of cycling, Anna said, "It definitely lifts the spirits. Cycling is the most efficient way to move a human being across the planet."

Representing Cycling UK's initiative for glow rides, Stamford's event highlights movement empowerment, urging participants to explore eco-friendly travel and boost community connection.
