Police name 21-year-old who died in Messingham crash

Police have named the 21-year-old who was killed in a crash in Messingham on Friday night as Jac Sanderson.

The incident involved two vehicles close to the junction of High Street and Church Street.

A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of driving over the limit remains in custody.

Officers received reports of two vehicles colliding on the A159 High Street in Messingham, Scunthorpe at around 9.50pm on Friday night (29 August).

It is reported a red Peugeot 207 was travelling southbound and a black Jaguar F Pace was travelling northbound before they are believed to have collided close to the junction of A159 High Street and Church Street in Messingham.

Emergency services attended, and one of the passengers of the Peugeot, who has been named by his family as 21-year-old Jac Sanderson, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: "The driver of the Peugeot, a 22-year-old man, reportedly failed a roadside breath sample and has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst over the prescribed limit. He remains in police custody assisting with ongoing enquiries at this time.

"A 23-year-old man and 21-year-old man who were also passengers in the Peugeot, and the driver of the Jaguar, a 26-year-old man, were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not thought to be serious at this time.

"Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances around the collision, and officers would encourage anyone who witnessed the incident, has any information, CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist officers with their investigation, to please contact our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 481 of 29 August."
