More than 10,000 new homes could be built around Lincoln and nearby villages over the next 15 years, under major growth plans unveiled by local councils.

Four huge sites — at Charterholme, Canwick Heath, Greetwell and North Hykeham — have been earmarked for development in the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan.

Together, they’ll shape how the city grows up to 2040 and beyond.

Sustainable Urban Expansions planned in the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan

The largest site, Canwick Heath, could eventually reach 6,000 homes, with the first phase of 450 now approved.

Charterholme, west of the city, will deliver about 3,200 homes and a new primary school, with building already underway off Skellingthorpe Road.

Around 1,400 homes are planned at Greetwell, on the site of the former quarry, and 2,000 more are proposed to the south of North Hykeham, alongside a new relief road.

Each neighbourhood is expected to include schools, shops and green spaces, creating what planners call “sustainable urban extensions” - or, in simpler terms, Lincoln’s next generation of communities.
