Three men have been arrested on suspicion of robbery after bottles of alcohol were taken from a shop in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called at 3.55pm on Wednesday 14th October after a store on Ossington Way was reportedly targeted.

Police said three men went inside the shop, grabbed bottles of alcohol and left.

Staff members followed the trio and challenged them. Police said they were then reportedly threatened with violence.

Arrests

Officers heard about the reported robbery and carried out a search of the area.

Police said they quickly found three people matching the description.

Multiple bottles of alcohol were recovered.

Three men, aged 33, 38 and 48, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Police response

Sergeant James Skeats, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Three suspects were quickly tracked down and detained after we received reports of this shop robbery."

He said: "While thankfully nobody was injured in this incident, staff members were still reportedly threatened with violence."

He said: "That meant this was classified as a robbery, which is a very serious offence that can cause great distress to anyone targeted."

He added: "Nobody should have to go through such an experience when they're just trying to do their job, so it was pleasing to make these three arrests."
