New City Council Plans Set to Safeguard Lincoln’s Heritage
MP backs extended boundaries to unite city and simplify local services
Lincoln’s historic identity will be protected under new plans for an extended city council, according to the city’s MP Hamish Falconer.
The proposals would see Lincoln’s boundaries expanded to include neighbouring villages such as Waddington and Skellingthorpe, while the rest of Lincolnshire is merged into a single authority.
Mr Falconer says the move will clear up confusion over which council is responsible for key services and unite areas that are already seen as part of Lincoln.
He explained: “We’re a city that’s governed itself for nearly a thousand years. It’s really important to preserve that identity. These new boundaries reflect what most people already see as Lincoln and will help the city prosper.”
Mr Falconer believes bringing decision-making under one main council will help the city grow and boost the economy.
He admitted there may be some teething problems as the changes are introduced, but described it as a “historic step forward” for Lincoln and its surrounding communities.
