A scheme that’s transformed days out for disabled visitors in Ingoldmells is set to expand along the Skegness coast.

The program provides specialist wheelchairs, for free, with large balloon wheels that glide over the sand.

Leanne Ellison Anderson took over running Beach Ability after seeing how it helped her son Oliver, "It's so emotional and so overwhelming," she said.

"We know first hand how important it is for whole families to be able to get on the beach together.

"So the fact that we're able to do that more at Ingoldmells now, but also in other places, so people have got that choice."

Lincolnshire County Council have committed provisional funding for eight new beach wheelchairs, with plans to open pick up locations across the East Coast.

"Families do not have to leave anybody behind - that's the big thing," said Leanne.

"So many times for us, when Oliver was younger, it was either splitting the family into two and him going off to do something else so he didn't feel like he was just a spectator to the fun."

Esme Scott and her mum Sammi.

Seven year-old Esme and her family have been enjoying the freedom the chairs bring, "We normally just get stuck at the top, so this is great," said mum Sammi.

"It's nice that she can join in with everyone, not get left out, she likes being able to watch what's going on.

"We're going to try let dip her toes in - Dad can lift her out!"

The service is to available to people of all ages who might otherwise struggle with soft sand.
