Lincolnshire police to remain at house in Waddingham as chemicals are safely destroyed
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a weapon/ device or ammunition, and making an explosive substance.
Lincolnshire Police will remain on the scene for a number of days in Waddingham as part of an investigation into chemicals and other material which needed to be safely destroyed by a specialist Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) team.
It follows an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a weapon/ device or ammunition, and making an explosive substance.
Via Facebook, a spokesperson for the force said:
"We will remain on scene at a property in Waddingham for the next few days as part of an investigation into chemicals and other material which needed to be safely destroyed by a specialist Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) team.
"This was safely removed from the scene and disposed of in a controlled explosion near Faldingworth last night (Thursday, 21 August).
"A number of people who were evacuated from their homes while a 100m cordon was in place around the property as a safety precaution, which was lifted at around 9.15pm. We are very grateful for the cooperation of those residents who were disrupted and displaced.
"We are in the process of investigating the reasons why the chemicals and materials were there, but we would like to be very clear that there have been rumours circulating that this incident was terrorism related – this is untrue.
"We did not believe there was a wider risk to the public at any point while our officers and specialist EOD teams were working at the scene.
"An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a weapon/ device or ammunition, and making an explosive substance. He has been released on police bail while our investigations continue."
