Lincolnshire Students Urged Not to Panic on Results Day
Head of Sixth Form Offers Reassurance and Advice as Thousands Receive Grades
Thousands of students across Lincolnshire are picking up their A level results today—but the message from one of the county’s leading teachers is clear: don’t panic if things haven’t gone as planned.
Sammi Jones, head of sixth form at Sir William Robertson Academy, says it’s natural to be nervous, but there are plenty of options if results aren’t what students had hoped for. She says:
"Just not to panic because obviously a lot of students around the country are going to be really nervous, but if the results aren't exactly what they hoped that they would be, they just need to remember that there are other options, but if they don't, then it's worth calling the universities because some universities can be flexible. It's always worth considering clearing as an option, so maybe they can reevaluate where they were going to go or what course they were going to do."
Sammi also points out that university isn’t the only path forward, adding:
"There’s also other options, like maybe university isn't for them, maybe they want to think about an apprenticeship or maybe even a gap year. So there's always alternative options and it's definitely not the be-all and end all. There are students that I recall from previous years that didn't get the grades that they wanted to get. I think there was one student that had to do a foundation year, so they were still able to do the course they wanted to, but it just looked slightly different."
With support available and a range of choices on the table, her advice is for students and parents to take time, seek guidance, and remember that grades don’t define the future.
