The Lincoln Christmas Market could return in a different form according to Greater Lincolnshire Mayor Andrea Jenkyns who is planning a new trial event, but the exact details are yet to be revealed.

The Reform UK Mayor promised to “return the Christmas to Lincoln” during her successful mayoral campaign earlier this year.

It followed the cancellation of the popular event in 2023 over safety fears due to the large Christmas Market crowds.

The Mayor confirmed that plans for its return were underway at the Lincolnshire Exhibition, which she organised to showcase the best of what the county had to offer.

She didn’t say whether the trial would take place this Christmas or next year, adding more details will be forthcoming.

Her office is working with two partners who had previously run Christmas markets.

Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, she said: “Obviously I only have a small team of five people, and we had to focus on the Exhibition first.

“We’ve been having conversations about a trial – I can’t reveal much yet – but we are finalising things which we can reveal in the coming weeks.

“We are working with two other partners who have experience of running a Christmas market.”

In December 2024, she tweeted: “Bah humbug, Labour took away Lincoln’s amazing Christmas market.

“If you elect me Greater Lincolnshire Mayor, I will return the Christmas to Lincoln this time next year.”

The City of Lincoln Council has previously said it won’t be part of any revived events, but would offer advice if requested.

2022 was the final year of the traditional Lincoln Christmas Market, which saw record numbers pack into the Castle and Bailgate areas.

The council took the decision shortly after not to continue holding it for safety reasons, saying the funds would be spent on a year-round series of events instead.
