Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue proposes 20 new firefighter posts to enhance emergency response

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue is proposing the creation of 20 new wholetime firefighter posts to bolster emergency response across the county.

The proposal follows an extensive review to ensure services remain resilient, effective, and sustainable and includes plans to establish 24/7 wholetime cover at Grantham Fire Station.

This would make Grantham Lincolnshire’s second 24/7 wholetime station, joining Lincoln South, enhancing strategic response capabilities.

The proposed changes involve implementing a 2-2-4 duty system, providing consistent availability and robust shift arrangements to meet demand.

While requiring additional investment, funding will primarily come from redirecting resources previously allocated for voluntary overnight on-call cover.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Baxter emphasised the importance of a sustainable response model, retaining crucial on-call personnel alongside wholetime firefighters.

The proposal remains open to public feedback, and residents are invited to participate in the engagement process starting 3rd August, accessible via www.letstalk.lincolnshire.gov.uk/response-review .

Feedback gathered will inform final recommendations to be considered later this year.
