Lincolnshire farmers set to find their voice in new choir
A new singing group to help combat loneliness amongst farmers starts on 5 June
A choir is set to be formed in Lincoln to help local farmers connect and find their voice.
The singing group will meet for the first time on Thursday 5 June at Bailgate Methodist Church - where they'll choose a name for the group.
Lincolnshire Agriculture Chaplain Alan Robson tells us he hopes to recruit 20 farmers and spread some joy.
“It’s well researched that music and singing and just being with people helps bring down the pressure and worry," said Reverend Robson.
"It does have a mental health aspect to it, but actually, let’s just have some fun."
The agriculture-exclusive choir aims to meet once a month and has ambitions of hosting an end of year Christmas carol show.
Reverend Robson states the main aim of the group is to give people an “enjoyable and fun evening”, so they can, “go away feeling at least a little better”.
“I am seeing every week a lot of farming people in anxiety, annoyance and frustration," he said.
"Sometimes when you’re not able to control what is going on out there, you just need to be able to chill out and have a sing."
And isn’t just carols that the choir will be singing, “there will be an odd hymn or two, but it will be a little bit different to traditional music."
Instead of choral ensembles the choir plans to sing, “almost like old-school folksy and country music” said Reverend Robson.
The first rehearsal will be at 6:30pm on Thursday 5 June at Bailgate Methodist Church and everyone from the farming community is welcome.
