Revd Sion Hughes-Carew, a clergyman in Lincolnshire, has been convicted of a drink-driving offence, it has been confirmed following a national newspaper article published yesterday, 24th November 2025.

The case, which has now been resolved in court, has led to a formal disciplinary process under the Clergy Discipline Measure. The investigation is being conducted by an external bishop, as required by church protocol.

Church officials stated the behaviour fell short of the high personal and professional standards expected of clergy, adding that the matter is being taken very seriously.

While the Bishop of Lincoln was mentioned in the newspaper article, the church has clarified that he was not directly involved in the incident.

As the disciplinary process is ongoing, the church has said it will not comment further on specific details. In the meantime, pastoral support and guidance are being provided to all affected.
