A Lincoln man who attacked a woman with a meat cleaver in an unprovoked attack has been jailed for ten years.
Lincoln Crown Court heard how Patrick Joseph Wiggins hit a woman over the head with a meat cleaver on Brayford Wharf South just after 6pm on Friday 9 January this year.
He was with another man, Kane Lilleyman, who also assaulted a man the woman was with.
The woman was left with a serious cut to her head, whilst the man was left with minor injuries.
Wiggins and Lilleyman fled the scene but were arrested later that same day after a search of the area.
The sentences
Wiggins, 42, of Portland Street, was found guilty of causing wounding with intent, threatening a person with a blade / sharply pointed article in a public place and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He's been handed a ten year jail term for wounding with intent, and five years and six months in jail for the other two offences, which will run concurrently.
He must also pay a victim surcharge of £228 and has been handed a restraining order against the victims.
Lilleyman, 35, of Arthur Street in Lincoln, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and pleaded guilty to an offence of affray.
He's been sentenced to one year and three months in jail suspended for two years, handed a five-year restraining order and ordered to do 100 hours of community service.
