Lincoln Castle strikes gold as one of England’s top attractions
Top national award recognises Lincoln Castle’s exceptional visitor experience, staff dedication and “class leading” displays
Lincoln Castle has cemented its place among England’s must-see destinations after being awarded VisitEngland’s prestigious Gold Accolade - a mark reserved for the very best visitor experiences in the country.
The honour follows outstanding feedback across the board, from glowing visitor reviews to the verdict of an experienced independent assessor who visited earlier this year.
The assessment praised the castle’s “class leading” historic displays, its knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, and the engaging tours delivered by the Friends of Lincoln Castle volunteer guides.
Summing up the visit, the assessor said: “The castle provides an enjoyable, informative and in many ways unique visitor experience, with visitors able to engage with some excellent and thought provoking historic displays and interpretation.
Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive councillor for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said the latest recognition was a proud moment for the entire team. “Receiving VisitEngland’s coveted Gold accolade is a fantastic achievement and its timing – coming hot on the heels of the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award – makes it even more special,” she said.
With the festive season on the horizon, the accolade arrives just as excitement builds for Lincoln Castle Illuminated.
“We’re now counting down to Lincoln Castle Illuminated, and I know lots of families will be as excited as I am to see the grounds transformed into a magical winter wonderland,” Cllr Oliver added.
Lincoln Castle wasn’t the only local site in the spotlight. Lincoln Guildhall took home an award in the Best Told Story (Tour) category, while Mrs Smith’s Cottage in Navenby was recognised as a Hidden Gem.
