Lincoln Castle to feature its largest dragon sculpture yet
New mythical creature set to join popular sculptures Lucy and Norman
Lincoln Castle is set to welcome a new dragon sculpture, the largest yet, as part of its growing collection of mythical creatures that captivate visitors and enrich the site's historical narrative.
Scheduled to take up residence from autumn 2026 until January 2028, the colossal sculpture will boast a head and neck section standing 4.6 metres tall, with wings 3.5 metres wide and 2.4 metres tall, dramatically positioned to burst through the roof of the Heritage Skills Centre.
Lucy and Norman, the previous dragon additions since 2022, have become beloved attractions at the Castle with their impressive displays appearing to break through a wall. Like them, the new creature aims to evoke Lincoln Castle's history, mirroring the gaze of the Norman stronghold over the city.
Planning documents express excitement about how this new addition will enhance the visitor experience and highlight the significance of Lincoln Castle as a site of power constructed in 1068.
The dragon's presence is contingent upon approval from Lincolnshire County Council’s planning department, with assurances that historical structures like the castle and Crown Court remain unaltered.
While the dragon's name remains undisclosed, it will draw inspiration from the castle's history, similar to Lucy and Norman, named after historical elements linked to Lincoln Castle.
