Jobs fair to be held for Lindsey Oil Refinery workers amid uncertainty
125 workers at the refinery are due to be made redundant at the end of this month
A special jobs fair is to be held for Lindsey Oil Refinery workers and contractors impacted by the continued uncertainty over the site’s future.
Grimsby Jobcentre has organised the fair, which will be held at Immingham Civic Centre, DN40 1QF, on Thursday, October 16, from 10am to 2pm.
125 workers at the refinery are due to be made redundant at the end of this month.
Another 255 are to remain employed beyond then, but whether the refinery will continue permanently is uncertain.
The independent Official Receiver is overseeing the sales process for the refinery site, and has overseen its management since Prax Group companies in charge entered administration.
It is understood that the sales process is set to conclude later this month.
“This is a very difficult time for those PRAX/LOR/ supply chain employees and their families and our hearts go out to them,” said Grimsby Jobcentre’s employer and partnership manager, Nick Gregory.
Employers set to feature at the event include British Steel, Myenergi, Heta (Humberside Engineering Training Association), Navigo, and Associated British Ports (ABP).
The fair is separate from the Government’s ‘Training Guarantee’ offer to directly employed refinery staff.
The Training Guarantee, with DN Colleges Group as the lead delivery partner, is offering workers affected by redundancies the opportunity to enrol in courses for free to help them switch to different employment.
“The support and backing from National Careers Service, DN Colleges, North East Lincolnshire local authority, North Lincolnshire local authority and the local employer network to deliver this Jobs Fair has been terrific,” added Mr Gregory.
The refinery is located near North Killingholme, so is within North Lincolnshire Council’s geographic area. However, it is estimated that the majority of workers actually live in North East Lincolnshire Council area.
The fair is aimed at refinery workers and contractors, with no registration in advance needed for attendees.
