Tents used by homeless people in Grantham believed to have been deliberately set alight
Arson investigation launched after one man was inside a tent when it was suspected to have been set on fire at the Paddocks
Police are investigating an incident in Grantham where tents used by homeless people are suspected to have been set alight with one person inside.
The man in his 40's didn't suffer any serious injuries.
Officers were called out by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service who were tackling the blaze at South Lodge Park known locally as The Paddocks following a report at 01.48am this morning (Tuesday, 3rd June).
The fire destroyed one tent and damaged two more
Initial examinations of the scene by Fire Investigators indicate that this was a deliberate ignition, and police are investigating this as a suspected arson with intent to endanger life.
Lincolnshire Police said:
"The area is sheltered by trees, and we know that the time of morning this happened will mean witnesses are limited.
"We need you to check CCTV, ring doorbell, or dashcam of the surrounding roads and footpaths close to The Paddocks to see if it captured anyone in that area either on foot, in or on a vehicle or any kind around the time of the offence. The timescale we are looking for is between 1.30am and 2.15am.
"If you have any other information, we would also like to hear from you.
"Please get in touch by emailing our detectives on [email protected] and quoting incident 20 of 3 June.
"You can also call 101 and ask to be put through to the duty Sergeant at Grantham CID quoting the same incident number."
