Restoration progress continues at Lincoln’s historic Greyfriars

Visible progress of medieval building restoration sparks excitement for the future plans for the space

Recognised as one of the city's most important heritage assets, Greyfriars restoration is seeing progress as the roof and extension is completed.

The new extension, to provide full accessibility between floors and changing places facility, is taking shape, with steelwork for the new lobby installed, bronze cladding being fitted, and the steel roof now in place.

The historic building dates back to the 1200's and the building work has been made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Councillor Josh Wells, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council, says, “Greyfriars is one of Lincoln’s most treasured historic buildings, and safeguarding its future is incredibly important to us."

"The support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund allows us to carry out essential structural repairs and protect the building’s medieval undercroft for generations to come."

Once complete, the project will bring the building back into use of the community space, hosting events, exhibitions, educational programmes and wider public activity.

The aim is to create an accessible and welcoming environment that allows more people to experience the building’s history and contribute to its future.
