Greener Future for South Kesteven as Council Secures Tree Planting Boost
£12,000 Funding to Plant Trees and Hedges, Enhancing Local Environments
South Kesteven is set for a green transformation, as the District Council receives twelve thousand pounds from the Trees Outside Woodland Fund to plant new trees and hedgerows this winter.
The funding, delivered in partnership between The Tree Council and DEFRA, will allow the council to plant fifty-eight trees and over two hundred metres of native mixed hedgerow across a range of council-managed open spaces.
Council officials say the project will help boost tree cover, create more attractive and healthier spaces, and benefit people and wildlife for years to come.
Councillor Rhys Baker, Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste, says the initiative is about more than just planting trees—it’s about creating a lasting legacy for communities, improving local environments, and helping the area adapt to climate change.
The new trees and hedges will support biodiversity, provide shelter and shade, and contribute to the council’s ongoing efforts to increase climate resilience.
The planting is part of South Kesteven’s Trees and Woodland Strategy, which aims to increase local tree canopy cover and follows the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan.
A variety of species will be planted to maximise both social and biodiversity value, offering habitats for wildlife and greener, healthier spaces for everyone in South Kesteven.
