Government ‘committed’ to securing Lincolnshire Police funding, says Minister
The force is currently facing a serious financial crisis while receiving the lowest funding per head of population in the country
The Policing Minister tells us the Government wants to ensure Lincolnshire Police are properly funded for the future.
The force is currently facing a serious financial crisis while receiving the lowest funding per head of population in the country.
A projected £60 million deficit over the next three years could result in hundreds of job losses if urgent action isn’t taken.
When asked about the situation in Lincolnshire Policing Minister Diana Johnson said, "this government is committed to resourcing policing to make sure that they have what they need to be able to keep us all safe."
The potential redundancies - expected as early as October - come as the force struggles to balance its books, raising serious concerns about how it will maintain public safety and essential policing services.
Policing Minister Diana Johnson is expected to hold further talks with Lincolnshire’s Chief Constable in September to discuss ways to address the ongoing funding shortfall.
"Now, Lincolnshire, I know, have long standing issues around funding. I have already met with them, the Chief Constable and the PCC (Police and Crime Commissioner), twice in the last few months to try and assist them and help them."
"Those conversations are ongoing, and I hear very much what the Chief Constable has to say."
Lincolnshire Police continues to call for a fairer funding formula that better reflects the challenges faced by rural forces with growing populations and limited resources.
