Friskney man jailed for over eight years for sexually assaulting young girl
42-year-old admitted to assaulting a girl under 13 after DNA evidence was gathered
A 42-year-old man has been jailed for over eight years after admitting to sexually assaulting a young girl in April 2025.
Mark Finney, previously of Bowman Avenue, Friskney, was sentenced to an extended prison term of eight years and nine months at Nottingham Crown Court on 4th November 2025. This includes a custodial sentence of four years and nine months, followed by a four-year extended licence period.
Finney’s crime came to light when the young victim confided in her mother, who then contacted Nottinghamshire Police.
Investigators collected vital DNA evidence which prompted Finney to change his initial not-guilty plea to guilty, accepting responsibility for one count of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 by touching.
In addition to his prison sentence, Finney was placed on the sex offenders' register and is now subject to a sexual harm prevention order. This will impose strict restrictions on his activities following his release from prison.
Detective Constable Jessica Mcleod of Nottinghamshire Police commended the victim for her bravery and highlighted the investigation’s success:
“Thanks to the bravery of the victim and excellent forensic work conducted by our investigators, the evidence against the defendant was undeniable.
"His appalling crime has now caught up with him and he’s behind bars where he will pose no threat to young people.
"I’d also like to emphasise just how courageous the victim was to come forward to a trusted adult. We hope the sentence provides her and her family with some comfort.
"We take reports of such matters very seriously and will investigate them thoroughly to ensure we can put a robust case to the courts.”
The police emphasised that they are committed to supporting victims of abuse and urged anyone affected by similar crimes to step forward.
