Friends of the earth says fracking to extract huge natural gas supplies in the Gainsborough area would not bring about energy security because it continues our reliance on fossil fuels.

They claim overturning the current ban on fracking would be widely unpopular.

Many local councillors and MPs like Gainsborough's Sir Edward Leigh and Richard Tice who represents Boston and Skegness believe it's a major opportunity.

There are claims using the natural gas from the Gainsborough site would help us secure UK energy supplies as well as increasing jobs in the area. .

Those in favour suggest it will reduce our gas imports

There are also claims it wouldn't mean a huge environmental impact because it would lessen our reliance on gas imports and the carbon footprint associated with that.

We've been speaking to Friends of the Earth who put the case against fracking there.

CEO Jamie Peters told us: "Experience has shown that fracking is deeply unpopular with every single community that faced the threat of it."

"They knew it would cause earthquakes - we saw this in Lancashire."

"We knew it would industrialise the countryside and bring huge amounts of disruption."

"On top of that it was proven not to be workable in the UK."

"Everything points towards the fracking ban remaining in place and we know it's a false solution."

"I think we're all sick with seeing the rise in energy prices along with record profits for the companies that give us them."

"We're really serious - we need to be energy secure and reduce bills."

"That means the cheapest form of energy - which is renewables."

"It means insulating homes that concretely reduces bills."

Fracking causes earthquakes - industrialises the countryside

"These are things that we should be taking seriously."

"Fossil fuels are bad for the environment - they're bad for the climate."

"They bring us no energy security - they go on an international market."

"The solution for that is our own renewables - programmes to insulate houses - reduce demand."

"The best time to do that was decades ago but the second best time is right now."

"Fracking causes earthquakes - industrialises the countryside."

"I've seen it really takes over the lives of local communities with the disruption."

"We know it will do nothing to reduce energy security or reduce bills."

"That's the reason it is so deeply unpopular around the country and why communities resisted it so fiercely."
