Free 30-minute parking trial planned for Cleethorpes car park
Council hopes scheme will boost shops and improve short-stay parking in the town centre.
North East Lincolnshire Council is planning to introduce 30 minutes of free parking at a Cleethorpes town centre car park.
The trial would take place at Victoria Car Park, behind The Old Vic on Alexandra Road, which opened last October. The aim is to encourage quick turnover of spaces, make short visits easier for shoppers and support nearby businesses.
It comes after councillors approved a separate budget amendment for up to two hours of free parking at weekends and holidays at Grimsby Town Hall Car Park and Cleethorpes Civic Offices Car Park.
A recent council review found overall parking capacity in Grimsby and Cleethorpes should remain sufficient until at least 2035, although demand can rise during busy summer periods in the seaside resort.
Plans are also being explored to increase parking in Grimsby, including a new Abbey Walk car park with around 81 spaces and an expansion of Burgess Street Car Park.
Council officials say the authority is also looking at introducing smart signs showing real-time information about available spaces in car parks across the borough.
