A number of dead animals have been found thrown away with fly-tipping in Grantham.

Recently, South Kesteven District Council Neighbourhood officers say they found a dead cat on Wyville Road in a bin bag.

They have also found a dead puppy, a dismembered deer and a large bird in bags at flats at New Beacon Road.

The council say the puppy was thought to be newly born.

An investigation into the fly-tipping is ongoing.

SKDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste, Cllr Rhys Baker, said: “We’re a nation of animal-lovers and all right-minded people will share our anger and disgust at such abhorrent behaviour.

“Throwing a lifeform away as if it is nothing more than a piece of rubbish is disgusting and a thoroughly upsetting thing to discover.

“Acts such as this will be fully investigated and I’m sure that the courts will take a similarly dim view.

“There are several possibilities as to how these animals died - illegal poaching or trapping of wild animals; natural causes; mistreatment; neglect; or road collisions.

“If you have struck an animal such as a dog or a cat on the road, don’t just leave it there or throw it away – take it to a vet. It’s what you’d want somebody else to do for your pet.”
