Future flooding in Lincolnshire likely to be even worse as well being more frequent
A climate expert has been telling us we need to prepare for severe flooding in the future
Climate experts say not only can Lincolnshire expect more of the type of flooding that hit some houses last month but future incidents could well be even worse.
Homes in places like Grantham Boston and the Bourne area suffered damage in January.
It follows other flooding in Lincolnshire and also in Newark over the last 18 months.
Local emergency services have previously told us they're expecting to have to deal with flooding on a more regular basis.
We spoke to Mark Scheurch Associate Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Lincoln about the issue.
He told us: "Climate change has an impact on enhancing the intensity of these events."
"They've been occurring in the past and they will occur in the future."
"But climate change increases both the frequency and intensity of these events."
We will need to continue to adapt to climate change
"We need to work with communities and bring the problem to the forefront of the political agenda."
"Particularly us in Lincolnshire will be affected by flooding in the future more and more."
"We're very low lying - it's something we need to press and act on as quick as we can."
"We need to mitigate climate change and also we will need to continue to adapt to climate change and to these more extreme type of flooding events - even if we do successfully mitigate climate change."
"It means we can cope with those more extreme events and more water coming down the rivers."
"There's a lot a person can do in terms of reducing the output in terms of using cars - planes and anything related to transport and also I think it's very important to listen carefully to what politicians are saying related to climate change."
